Job Description

We are currently seeking a passionate and dedicated Sommelier to elevate our guests' experience at the renowned 5-star Sheen Falls Lodge. In this role, you will not only provide exceptional guest service but also contribute to the enhancement of our wine program through your expertise and enthusiasm.

As our Sommelier, you will excel in communication, genuinely caring for our guests, and proactively expanding your knowledge of wines and pairings. Your deep passion for food and wine will drive you to continuously learn and develop our wine list, enabling you to confidently upsell and promote items based on your personal expertise. Collaboration is key, and as a team player, you'll play a pivotal role in supporting our Restaurant Director and F&B team during service, always striving to create unforgettable experiences for our guests.

Responsibilities include overseeing wine sales, managing inventory, curating and expanding our wine lists, and providing comprehensive wine training to all F&B staff. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to organize tasting events and cellar tours to enrich our guests' understanding and enjoyment of our extensive wine collection.

Our wine cellar is a source of pride at Sheen Falls Lodge, boasting the title of the largest public wine cellar in Ireland. Nestled beneath the lodge, this hidden gem houses over 10,000 bottles from 18 different countries. As part of our team, you will help maintain and elevate the standards of this remarkable cellar. Guests are invited to explore this impressive collection during daily tours led by our sommelier team, where they can choose from over 800 labels. Furthermore, they have the unique opportunity to indulge in private whiskey, gin, or port tastings in the intimate setting of our wine cellar.

Qualifications

The Candidate: The ideal Sommelier will have the following:

2+ year Experience and be capable of working within a quality driven operation
Fluent English both oral and written.
WSET level 3 Awards in wine or Sommelier Diploma or studying towards.
Previous experience in a fine dining hotel restaurant environment.
Good understanding of service within a restaurant.
Great presentation.
Ability to interact with guests.
Upselling techniques.
A well organised approach and be reliable and a team player.
Flexibility to work shifts as required, including weekend.
Please note this role requires an element of manual handling and some heavy lifting.
