Position Title: Support Worker / Caretaker

Location: Haven House, Morning Star Avenue, Dublin D07 WF50

Work Schedule: 19.5 hours per week (part-time)

Contract: 1-year fixed-term contract

Salary: €31,639 PRO RATA

Reporting To: Project Leader / Deputy Project Leader / Team Leader

The Role

This role involves providing essential support within a 24-hour, short-term residential service for adult men, women, couples, and families experiencing homelessness.

The primary purpose of the role is to maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for residents. You will also support the wider team in delivering high-quality, person-centred services in line with the DRHE Pathways Model.

This is a client-focused role within a challenging but rewarding environment, working with individuals who may present with complex needs. The successful candidate will contribute to achieving positive outcomes for residents through high standards of service and care.

Key Responsibilities

Provide a high-quality service and welcoming environment for all residents of the service and engage with residents
Engage respectfully and appropriately with residents
Support Social Care Workers in their duties to ensure the smooth operation of the service operation of a busy residential
To work effectively as part of a team and being open to reasonable requests from Deputy Project Leader or Project Leader/Team leader in order to ensure effective working relationships;
Adhere to Crosscare’s policies, code of conduct, and standard operating procedures
Maintain accurate records relevant to the role

Maintenance & Facilities

Carry out day-to-day maintenance and minor repair tasks as directed by Project and Deputy Project Leader (e.g. painting walls, ceilings, doors, skirting)
Identify and report maintenance issues requiring specialist attention

Cleaning Duties

Vacuum rooms, corridors, and communal areas
Sweep and mop floors
Empty waste bins and dispose of waste appropriately
Clean glass surfaces, mirrors, and fixtures
Clean bathrooms and toilet facilities to a high standard
Maintain cleanliness in all shared areas

Fire, Health & Safety

Adhere to all Health & Safety policies and procedures
Identify and address hazards (e.g. trip risks) promptly
Ensure safe storage and use of cleaning materials
Assist with and/or carry out fire safety checks in line with policy
Comply with all Health and Safety requirements of the service

General Duties

Maintain cleaning equipment and storage areas in an orderly manner
Communicate effectively and respectfully with residents and staff
Promote a friendly, respectful, and welcoming environment
Report safeguarding or welfare concerns in line with organisational policies

Essential Requirements

Previous experience in a support, cleaning, caretaking, or maintenance role
Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Personal Skills

Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Honest, reliable, and trustworthy
Self-motivated with a proactive approach
Good attention to detail
Understanding of and commitment to working with people experiencing homelessness, addiction, and mental health challenges

Desirable (Optional but Beneficial)

Basic maintenance or DIY skills
Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations
Experience in a residential or support service setting
